Clothing:  Please dress appropriately for the weather, even in the warmer months the mornings can be cooler. Check the hourly forecast and remember moving at 30mph on a skiff will make it feel even colder. Always bring a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a rain coat. 

 Food and Drink:  Please bring a reusable water bottle and avoid single use plastics. I have a large water jug on board to refill bottles. I have light snacks (trail mix, jerky, granola, protein bars, etc.) but if you want something specific please pack it with you.

 Tackle:  I have everything you need to go fishing. I use only top tier rods from Orvis, Sage and Winston with reels from Galvan, Bauer and Hatch. Multiple line configurations will be loaded, rigged, and ready with what has been working for your charter date. You are welcome to bring your own gear, but please communicate with me beforehand so I can be sure it is appropriate and set up correctly. If possible have your rod rigged when you arrive.

Yes. I am not required to have a charter/party boat license that offers blanket fishing license coverage because I do not offer services to more than 2 anglers. I have a 25-ton master USCG captain’s license, hold professional liability insurance and a CT state guide license.  I will always produce my credentials if asked, or if you’d like to see copies before your charter. Most New England states and New York provide saltwater reciprocity, so if you have a marine fishing license from another nearby state that will usually cover you.  You only need the marine (saltwater) license.  It cost $10 for CT residents and $15 for nonresidents.  Here is the link.

In my experience the morning provides the best opportunity, we leave just before sunrise. The specific time will change throughout the season. (If you’re not a morning person fall provides the latest sunrises.) I also offer afternoon trips which depart roughly 4 hours before sunset.

Saltwater fly fishing is one of the most challenging ways to fish.  I don’t expect anyone to be an expert and I am happy to provide coaching and instruction.  However, if you don’t have basic fly-casting ability it will be very difficult to find success.  I offer casting instruction and depending on my schedule, for those who book a charter, I am happy to meet briefly on a day prior to your trip and do some casting on land.

Kids are great and I have a son of my own, however, my charter operation is focused specifically on fly fishing.  This often isn’t the best introduction or experience for young kids. I am happy to evaluate on a case by case basis so please reach out to me directly to discuss.

I do not specifically market light tackle charters, but I usually have one or two spin rods on board. If you or your guest want to spin fish that is perfectly fine and can often be a way to connect with a fish in difficult conditions.
